It’s been designed in response to the high demand for experts in data analysis and modelling.

Study at ARU and build on your existing skills. Our course is suitable for computer scientists, software engineers, IT professionals, or established professionals in the areas of computing, mathematics, and/or data analysis. Before starting the course, we strongly recommend that you have basic programming knowledge of Python.

The combined effect of the big volume of data availability on a global scale and a significant increase in processing power offered by technologies like cloud computing has made it possible to unlock the true potential of machine learning algorithms, extract features from data, and to expand the application domain of artificial intelligence.

The need to adapt and incorporate the ever-growing field of AI and its technologies into current business practices is putting pressure on industries to invest in their legacy systems. Supported by Intel’s AI Academy through their online and data processing resources, the skills you’ll learn can be applied to AI-enabled business strategies and marketing, management of database records, e-business technologies, IT system development and design, and IT project management.

If you do not have a degree in computing but are interested in studying this subject at postgraduate level, we also offer an MSc Applied Data Science. This conversion course will take you through the major building blocks of data science and help you graduate ready for a career in computing.

TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT

12 months full-time

The modules on this Masters degree reflect current trends in AI. They’ll give you a glimpse into the IT industry and topics that will prepare you for the job market.

You’ll be introduced to the concept of semantic data technologies, which identify and interpret the meaning of data according to its context. You’ll gain the skills to structure semantic data, develop ontological models and use these to create knowledge-based applications to analyse and add value to data and support decision making.

Two modules will explore machine learning, a sub-discipline of artificial intelligence which deals with teaching the computer to act without being programmed. You’ll also explore applications of neural computing and deep learning to big data in physical and biological sciences, finance and social sciences. Your Postgraduate Major Project is an opportunity for you to undertake independent research into a topic of interest and in which you can develop a significant level of expertise.

Assessment
Throughout the course, we’ll use a range of assessment methods to measure your progress. You’ll complete exams, essays, research reports, oral presentations, and a dissertation on a subject of your choice.

Entry requirements

International students

English language requirements

If English is not your first language, you’ll need to make sure you meet our English language requirements for postgraduate courses.

Improving your English language skills

If you don’t meet our English language requirements, we offer a range of courses which could help you achieve the level required for entry.

We also provide our own English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT) in the UK and overseas. To find out if we are planning to hold an ELPT in your country, contact our country managers.

Main

A first degree of 2:2 or above in a relevant subject, or a degree of 2.2 or above in any subject plus relevant experience.
If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 ( Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
