From self-driving cars to chess-playing computers, artificial intelligence (AI) has been shaping our world for some time now.

Our course is accredited by IET and BCS on behalf of the Engineering Council as fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer. It is also Accredited by BCS for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.

Our goal is to provide ARU students with the right tools for career planning and successful employment through; an array of career advising services and employability skills programs to support students’ personal and career development to meet employers’ hiring needs. In addition, we build corporate partnerships and liaise with companies to avail experiential and career opportunities and help employers reach and attract the right talent.

Teaching and Modules

At ARU, you’ll learn about the principles and applications of AI, the systems that underpin it, and the advanced algorithms that are employed.

You’ll use the most up-to-date technologies – including software packages and hardware infrastructure – and work on live brief assignments.

To support your studies, there’s access to online resources from the Intel AI Academy and Amazon AWS Educate programme, and 12-month access to Pluralsight online training courses for programmers.

A foundation year prepares you for the rest of your course, and focuses on general skills such as researching and referencing, numeracy and ICT, and communication. We’ll also start to look at some more subject-specific topics. 

Modules are assessed through a combination of coursework (coding, reports, logbooks, presentations, group and individual projects) and exams. Indicatively, the amount of coursework and exam is 52% to 48% in year 1 and 72% and 22% in years 2 and 3, with some possible year on year variation.
